Run a Class of Group Projects on Kanbedu.

Everything a lecturer needs to go from an empty account to a class of group boards, and what to check each week after that.

  1. 01

    Create your account

Sign up with your email address and a password, then open the verification email and click the link. It expires within 24 hours. When asked, choose a username of 3 to 30 characters with at least one letter.

  2. 02

    Create a class

In the sidebar, under Classes, choose + Create a Class. Give it a name and, if you like, a term. You're the class owner, and the class opens on its Overview with a short setup checklist.

  3. 03

    Choose how group boards start

The checklist starts with Choose How Group Boards Start: the columns every group's board begins with, and any starter tasks, such as your assignment's milestones. Choose Keep These for the standard one, or Change Columns to start from an example (Report or Essay, Design Project, Build and Test) or set your own.

Do this before you add groups, because a template shapes the groups made after it is saved. If you change it later, you can still use it on any group board nobody has used yet.

  4. 04

    Get students in

In People, choose Add Students. Share the class link or QR code in class, or choose Import CSV and upload a file with name and email columns, plus an optional group column. Each student on the list is emailed a personal invite, up to 100 per file, and a group column makes those groups for you.

  5. 05

    Make groups and place students

Choose Add Groups to make all your groups at once. Students who join wait in Needs a Group until you place them: one at a time with Place, by dragging, or all at once with Spread Evenly. A student imported with a group goes straight into it. The checklist ticks off each step as you go, and makes way for your groups once everyone is in one.

  6. 06

    Check the Overview each week

The Overview lists the groups that need a hand right now, each with the reason in plain words, and the ones worth a question at your next meeting. Everything else is under All Groups.

In Settings, choose how long a task can sit before it counts as Waiting. Pick a little less than how often you meet your groups.

  7. 07

Before a meeting, open the group

Each group has a page with its Board and a Summary: what got done this week, what is stuck, who has been active on the board, and any task history worth asking about. Activity Over Time charts the group's board across the term, and can show one kind of work at a time, like tasks created. Use the arrows to move straight to your next group. Treat all of it as a reason to ask a question, never as a grade on its own.

  8. 08

    Bring in other teachers

If you teach with others: in People, Teachers invites lecturers by email or with a link, and each invite lasts 7 days. Giving a teacher the whole class is free. Limiting one to certain groups is part of Lecturer Pro. How teaching teams work.

  9. 09

    Wrap up the term

Reports holds Participation, Unusual Activity and the grading export (a CSV per student or a PDF per group). Exporting, archiving a finished class and reusing it next semester are part of Lecturer Pro. It isn't available to buy yet. Join the waitlist.
